The Inaugural Basil Bunting Poetry Award 2009

- Up to three commendations of £75 each
The results of the award will be published on the web site after the awards ceremony, which will take place in Newcastle upon Tyne on 10 December 2009.
Neil Astley, the editor of Bloodaxe Books, Basil Bunting's publishers, will read the work of the award winners
Eligibility
The award is open to anyone worldwide who is over 18 on 30 September 2009.
Submission dates
Both postal and online entries must be received by 12 o'clock midnight GMT on 30 September 2009
The Judges
The judges cannot enter into any correspondence and their decision will be final.
The poems will be judged anonymously.
Readers may be used to help the judges in choosing the shortlists
The judges’ report will appear on the website after 10 December 2009
The Poems
- The poems must be in English and not exceed 42 lines in length and must be the original work of the entrant.
- The poems must not have been published (which includes self publication, website or online publishing and broadcast) nor entered in any other competition prior to the 10 December 2009
Layout & submission
- Poems must be typed, single spaced and single sided.
- No identifying marks must appear except for the title.
- Postal entries should be printed on A4 size paper
- Each poem must be on a separate sheet.
- If you submit a postal entry, please keep your own copy as no poems will be returned.
- Postal entries with incorrect or underpaid postage will not be collected so please make sure you pay the correct postage.
Fees
- Fees are stated in sterling. The fee for the first poem is £7 and for any further poems £3 each.
- There is no limit on the number of poems you can submit.
- UK Postal entries can be paid by cheque drawn on a UK bank and made payable to The BB Poetry Award.
- Overseas postal entries must be paid in cash (notes only) in Euros or US Dollars using the rate of exchange in place at the time of submission. We recommend that you use registered post.
- Online entries are paid upon submission by way of the PayPal facility provided on the entry form.
- No other form of overseas payment such as bank drafts, coupons, money orders or cheques will be accepted.
- No refunds will be made.
Copyright
Copyright will be retained by the author but the Basil Bunting Poetry Award reserves the right to publish the winning entries and commendations on their website
